Why am I studying Japanese?

My reason for studying Japanese is that my second year of high school I promised my Japanese friend that in college I would study the language. If I ever wished to visit her home in Osaka, she required that I at least be able to order some ramen without making a complete fool of myself! And I would do a lot for some quality ramen...

What am I excited about?

I am most excited about being able to call up my high school friend and impress her with my amazing ability to stumble through a basic conversation with her in her first language because for our whole friendship she has been using my first language, English. Oh, how the tables will turn!

What have I found challenging so far?

The hardest part for me so far is that humans speak languages so fast, so sometimes my brain cannot keep up with what others are saying especially in a completely new language! It takes my mind a minute to process what another person has said to me, so oral conversations can be tough. But! Who doesn't love a good challenge?

  1. That's amazing that you have a good friend who can encourage you to work hard in Japanese! If you do visit her in Osaka, which national monuments and places would you definitely want to see?

    1. First, we would definitely have to visit her favorite restaurants. Once that is out of the way, I'd love to go to the castle in Osaka!

  2. ใŠใฏใ‚ˆใ†!This is absolutely the most amazing reason to learn Japanese. I have a friend in the military who is stationed in Iwakuni and his favorite thing about Japan is the ramen! What other foods would you want to order in Japan?
